In the wake of the shooting in Connecticut, here are some data worth considering:
http://www.articlesbase.com/law-articles/children-car-accidents-the...
The plain truth is, we are prepared and willing to accept a very substantial loss of innocent life every year on the nation's highways. As a mature and reasoned calculation, we have determined as a people that a certain number of deaths - 40,000 to 50,000 a year (including the loss of 2,000 children) - is an acceptable price to pay for the freedom to have personal mobility. I think you see where I'm going here.

It's clear to me that the easy access to firearms in the US makes it easier for the mentally ill and criminally deranged to kill a lot of people in their fits of rage. Trying to argue against this self-evident fact is a losing cause. If there is going to be a national "conversation" about this issue, we shouldn't be stupid. Let us assert up front that the availability of guns means that people like the Connecticut shooter or the Colorado shooter etc. can legally assemble a formidable arsenal. If we're honest, we should see that as a problem and one that can perhaps be addressed without asking law-abiding citizens to give up their very fundamental right to protect themselves, their families, and their property.

But let us also note this: Of the 12 worst mass shootings in US history, six have occurred since 2007 (according to some data I read today). Six of the worst 12 in the past five
years!

Now, guns have been a standard item in most American households for 200-plus years. It seems, then, that the easy availability of firearms, which has been a fact of life since the Republic's founding, has not historically led to mass murder. That is a new phenomenon. So in this conversation, we need to ask what's happened in recent years, what new factor has been plugged into the equation, that is leading to these horrible outcomes?

Some point to the culture. The culture is a problem, but I'm not ready to buy it as the only, or even primary factor, here. American popular culture has always centered around violence.

Some point to the removal of God from the schools. Maybe. Could be. It's something to consider. But does a mentally ill murderer care about what God thinks? I don't think so, but I don't know. I certainly feel that America's deepest problems are spiritual in nature. These shootings are a manifestation of that.

Some point to an increase in mental illness as the root cause. Clearly, these shooters are "troubled." But is it the mental illness itself, or is it perhaps the way we treat mental illness that is the problem? I don't have the data, but I am willing to bet that these shooters are on potent "cocktails" of psychoactive and mood-altering drugs. Their families, not knowing what to do with them, turn them over to the mental health establishment. There is some evidence that the stew of psychiatric drugs can have some very dark side effects. Is our medical community unwittingly creating a generation of monsters by overmedicating young males as a way to "manage" them? To me, this is where we need to look first.

But of course, we will look at guns. And the killings will continue, since determined
murderers will always finds ways to carry out their death fantasies. My guess is that their weapons of choice will be far more lethal than firearms.

Blessings Bro. Dave. It is truly heart rending to read of the deaths of little children, whether by cruel intention or irresponsibility.  It was at the risk of sounding paranoid that I was discussing with a brother the possibility of the persons carrying out such heinous acts being temporarily controlled to carry these things out to push forward some wicked agenda for some "new world order". Perhaps such drugs provide the gateway for this. An interesting point u raise indeed.

The drug issue is really big here as are all the things you mentioned. I hate to see another ban. I have owned a number of semi auto rifles in the past. As I understand it even my Glock .23 would be banned because it accepts detachable magazines.

Semi auto's come first. About a year afterward they will be saying now we realize most killing is done with hanguns. Then they will be banned. Shortly afterward I suspect they will ban Bibles because it gives no peace but rather judgment to the deeds of the wicked. Not long after that they will begin to round up Christians and others who oppose their agenda to fill up the FEMA camps they have built.

Here's another spin on this.  Not sure of the veracity of this info, but it's interesting:

The father of Newtown Connecticut school shooter Adam Lanza is Peter Lanza who is a VP and Tax Director at GE Financial. The father of Aurora Colorado movie theater shooter James Holmes is Robert Holmes, the lead scientist for the credit score company FICO. Both men were to testify before the US Sentate in the ongoing LIBOR scandal. The London Interbank Offered Rate, known as Libor, is the average interest rate at which banks can borrow from each other. 16 international banks have been implicated in this ongoing scandal, accused of rigging contracts worth trillions of dollars.

Anyone have any info on this?

Major question! In the video of the aftermath of the shooting they show an officer taking a long gun from the killers trunk. Ok they said children died of rifle hits. So did the killer go and shoot the children, then take the rifle and put it back in the trunk going back inside with his handguns? Doesnt that sound a bit odd?

That does sound odd.

Is it possible that the killer had left another gun in his truck? I didn't see the video and haven't really got a clue as to what the explanation is. The only think I could think of is that he took some guns in the school and left others in the truck.

Just searching for info on this. If this link works it seems there is somewhere a breakdown of communication or perhaps a breakdown of the truth?

I had to edit out the link. It was supposed to be a 2 minute clip was actually connected to one for 3 hrs. Not sure of the content so better to blot it out. Anyway they were reporting that 4 hanguns were found in the school and a Busmaster in the car. Then they say all the shootings were done by the rifle. Then the gun they take out of the trunk in my opinion does not seem to be an AR. Hmmm
